Our Small Space Laundry Room Organization That Maximizes Storage
For the past few weeks, I’ve been in full “little by little” mode, slowly organizing every single drawer and cabinet in our laundry room, and let me tell you… this room works HARD for our family.
When we were planning this space last year, I had one big goal:
Make every square inch count.

It has come a long way from where it started…

This room isn’t just for laundry. It’s our cleaning hub, utility closet, storage zone, pet station, and household tool stash all rolled into one. So the layout had to WORK.
We built in:
- 5 cabinets
- 5 drawers
- A hidden cleaning cupboard
- A large trash pull-out
- Wall storage
- A multi-purpose countertop
And then I went totally bananas with my pretty label maker.

Today I’m giving you the full tour of how every single space functions.
Come on in.

The Cabinet Tour
Cabinet 1 – Laundry Headquarters
This cabinet holds everything we use on a daily basis for laundry.

Inside:
Cabinet 2 – Pool, Summer & Utility Storage
This cabinet became our seasonal utility zone.

Inside:
This cabinet keeps all those “grab-and-go” items in one easy place.
This one holds the things we don’t need daily but definitely don’t want lost.

Each category lives in labeled acrylic bins:
- Power cords (these power cord bundlers are awesome)
- Chargers
- Party supplies
- Candles
- Air fresheners
No more digging through junk drawers to find a super specific charger for an electronic device on its last legs.

Cabinet 4 – The Hidden Hamper
Our large lower corner cabinet holds one big basket that acts as our overflow laundry hamper.
Simple. Functional. Accessible. Invisible.

Cabinet 5 – Cleaning Station
This is where the heavy lifters live.
Inside:
- Vacuum cleaner
- Steam mop
- Cordless stick vacuum
- Acrylic bins for cleaning cloths and scrubbers
- Shelf storage for:
- Small handheld steam cleaner
- Upholstery cleaner
- Iron
Everything for deep cleaning lives in one place, ready when we need it.

The Hidden Slide-Out Cleaning Cupboard
The hidden cleaning cupboard might be my favorite feature in the entire room.
Tucked in a small gap between the wall and the cabinetry is a slim pull-out cupboard that stores:
On hooks
- Mop
- Broom
- Duster
- Squeegee
- Dustpan & hand broom
In vertical slots
- All-purpose cleaners
- Bathroom cleaners
- Floor cleaners
- Cleaning ingredients like vinegar and baking soda
No bulky cleaning tools leaning against walls anymore. Everything has a home.
Drawer Organization Tour

Large Pull-Out Drawer – Trash Storage
A hidden pull-out keeps the trash can tucked away but easy to access.
Drawer Stack (5 Drawers)
Every drawer has a job, no “junk drawer” allowed. (And hopefully it stays that way.) I just dropped one of these flatware trays in each drawer and they did the job.

Drawer 1 – Office Supplies
- Stationery
- Pens & stamps
- Scissors
- Post-it notes
Drawer 2 – Craft & Household Supplies
- Hot glue
- Scotch tape & shipping tape
- Glue
- Command strips
- Zip ties

Drawer 3 – Household Tools
- Measuring tape
- Screwdrivers
- Pliers
- Utility knives
- Paint touch-up pens
- Screws & hardware
Drawer 4 – Miscellaneous
- Label maker & labels
- Matches & lighters

Drawer 5 – Pet Drawer
- Dog treats in these lidded bins that fit perfectly inside IKEA drawers
- Grooming brushes
- Collar & leash
- Heartworm medicine
- Dog sweaters
- Poop bags
- Portable dog water bowl
- Grooming supplies
Lola has already learned where the treat drawer is, so it’s officially her favorite spot in the house. These blue and white chinoiserie pet food bowls are seriously the cutest.

Wall Storage That Works Hard
To keep the room flexible and functional, we added:
Both fold away when not in use so nothing feels cluttered. We plan to add this wall mounted collapsible rack to have a place to hang up ironed clothes, but would it be a room makeover without still having a tiny project leftover to do?

The Countertop Setup
We added a removable countertop over the washer and dryer so we can still access the water hookups behind them… function first, always.

On the counter:
- Apothecary jars for:
- Powder laundry detergent
- Scent booster beads
- Wool dryer balls
- And a little jar for loose change

One of my favorite little function-first details in this room almost didn’t happen. but I’m so glad it did.
After installing the lower cabinets, we noticed a slim gap between the wall and the cabinet edge that was just wide enough to slide in a wooden fold-up step stool. Instead of trying to cover the gap, we turned it into a storage feature.
Now, the stool lives tucked away out of sight, but whenever I need to reach the top shelves of the upper cabinets, I can simply slide it out in seconds.
Sometimes the best storage solutions come from working with the quirks of a space instead of fighting them, and this tiny spot turned into one of the most useful little upgrades in the whole room.

The Secret to Keeping It From Looking Cluttered
With this much storage, things could easily look busy, so I concealed it.
It keeps the room feeling soft, calm, and intentional, not like a storage closet exploded.

Why This Room Works So Well
This laundry room functions because:
- Everything has a dedicated home
- Categories are grouped logically
- Daily-use items are easy to reach
- Bulkier items are hidden but accessible
- Visual clutter is concealed

This one organized room makes the entire house run smoother.
Because when laundry, cleaning, tools, pets, and daily household needs are under control… life feels just a little easier.
